Local Pet Crematorium - Allow us to collect your pet, or bring your pet to us? A personal choice.
When the time comes to say goodbye to your much-loved pet, there is no right or wrong way to do things - I know, we say that all the time but it is so true. There’s no feeling too big or request too small, we promise.
Everyone is different, every relationship is different and what feels comforting for one person may feel completely overwhelming for another.
At Fleur Fauna Pet Crematorium, we want you to have choices. You can ask us to collect your pet from your home or your vet, or you can choose to bring your pet to us. You can then decide whether you’d like us to return them home to you, your vet, or collect them again when their individual pet cremation is complete.
Whichever you choose, we are here to make the process as gentle, personal and straightforward as possible.
Pet crematorium collection – we can come to you
For some, the thought of taking their pet anywhere after they have passed is simply too difficult. You may want to say goodbye at home, in familiar surroundings, and then let us take care of everything from there. Life already demands we keep spinning through grief - if there is something that can be done to lighten planning or decisions, it can be a great relief.
If you choose a home collection for your pet, we will arrange a time that works for you - we can message on WhatsApp or email if a phone call isn’t right for you. There is no need to wait for a weekly collection service. We can come to your home when you are ready.
We can also collect your pet directly from your veterinary practice if that is your wish.
When we collect your pet, they will be transported on their own, comfortably and respectfully, in a bed. Your pet can travel in their own bed, surrounded by their favourite toys - your wishes are so important to us.
Once your pet is with us, we will care for them personally. Only one pet is ever with us at any one time. Fleur Fauna is an independent, family-run pet crematorium, and only Natasha and James will look after your pet throughout their time with us.
Of course, all of the above applies when we collect from your vet.
What happens when we collect your pet?
We understand that the moment of collection can feel incredibly emotional, so there is no pressure to rush.
We will talk you through what will happen and answer any questions you have. You can be as involved in the process as you wish.
Some people want to know every detail. Others simply want to know that their pet is safe and cared for and would rather leave the practicalities to us.
Both are completely okay.
You can choose how much communication you would like while your pet is with us. We can keep you updated throughout, or we can give you space and simply contact you when your pet is ready to come home.
Losing a pet can be very overwhelming and whilst we can collect your pet as soon as you are ready, we understand you may need time to think over your wishes for them. We will look after them until the time is right for their cremation.
What if you would rather bring your pet to Fleur Fauna yourself?
For some families, bringing their pet to the crematorium feels like an important part of saying goodbye.
You may want to be the person who brings them to us. You may want to see where they will be cared for by Natasha and James - there can be something so comforting about knowing exactly where your pet is going and who will be with them.
If you choose to bring your pet to our pet crematorium, we will take the time to talk with you, explain what happens next where this is your wish, and make sure you are comfortable before you leave.
There is no expectation that you have to stay to talk to us, and there is no expectation that you have to leave quickly. This is your pet, your goodbye and your choice.
You can stay involved as much as you want
One of the things that matters to us at Fleur Fauna is that you don't feel disconnected from your pet once they come into our care.
We can keep you involved throughout the process as much or as little as you wish.
For those who want to be involved, we can talk you through what is happening and make the farewell personal to your pet.
You can decide for your pet to rest in the quiet or there is the option to play music of your choice while we say farewell. We light a candle just for them, it is a quiet, private moment just for your pet.
We will always ask you for any personal requests you may desire to ensure your beloved pet has the send off they deserve for example, a favourite biscuit, a toy, or a letter from yourselves kept with them.
We will take care of everything with love, care and respect, while giving you the space you need.
When will my pet's ashes be returned?
We know that bringing your pet home matters.
After losing a pet, having their ashes back can provide a sense of comfort. It can also mean that you can begin to create a special place for them at home, whether that is with an urn, a favourite photograph, their collar or another treasured memory.
At Fleur Fauna, we always aim to return your pet's ashes to you within 24–48 hours.
We know that you don't want to be left wondering where your pet is or waiting weeks to bring them home.
Whether you have chosen to bring your pet to us, or we have collected, you have the same choice of if you come to us to collect them or us to bring them home.
Having a pet’s ashes returned can also make their absence feel a little more real. In some cases, you may like us to keep them with us a little longer. All you have to do is ask.
What can I expect when I come to collect my pet's ashes?
Collecting your pet can be emotional and there is no particular way you are expected to feel.
When you arrive, we will make sure everything is ready for you. You can take your time, ask questions and talk to us about your pet if you would like to.
Some people are happy to come in, collect their pet's ashes and head home. Others want to stop for a while and talk. We are here for you before, during and after your pet’s cremation.
Again, there is no right or wrong way to do it.
Our aim is simply to make the experience as calm and personal as possible and honour your pet with the same love, care and dignity you’ve given them their whole life.
Which option is right for you?
There are many reasons why someone might choose a collection service, and just as many reasons why someone might prefer to bring their pet to us themselves.
You might prefer us to collect your pet if:
You want to say goodbye at home.
Taking your pet somewhere feels too difficult.
Your pet has passed away at your veterinary practice.
You would rather let us take care of the practical arrangements.
You would like your pet collected the same day.
You might prefer to bring your pet to Fleur Fauna if:
You want to personally bring your pet to us.
You would like to meet us and see where your pet will be cared for.
You want to be more involved in the process.
You find comfort in knowing exactly where your pet is.
Neither option is better than the other. We have many families who ask us to collect their pet, and want to collect them from us afterwards. This is your pet and the right choice is simply the one that feels right for you and your family.
